20 year-old Hai Chau won the Vietnamese version of the German-Dutch singing reality show “The Winner is” at the finale held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 10.
With her talented singing, attractive performance and strong personality, Chau won the contest and received a VND630 million (US$29,949) prize and a recording contract with the Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company.
Other finalists on the show included Quoc Thien, Huy Lan and Dong Thoi Gian (Timeline) band.
Well-known comedian Hoai Linh, the main judge of the show, said Hai Chau has bravery that is hard to find in a youth.
“I’m so happy because I won not only the competition but I also overcame the shyness of a small stage performer to stand on a big stage. I’m even happier seeing my family accepting my passion and supporting the path I’m going to walk on,” Chau shared after learning that she had won.
“I will spend the award money on learning singing and performing skills. I want people to see me improve after my single produced by Universal is released,” she added.
“The Winner Is”, created by John de Mol, is a presentation of Talpa Media USA Inc. and Universal Television.
On air since May 25, the show’s Vietnamese version, which is in its first year, gathered 64 contestants including established singers.
