Vietnamese youngsters in Hanoi fall for Japanese pottery

In the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi, Japanese pottery is now a hot topic amongst youngsters.

While Japanese pottery comes in many forms, professional collectors prefer pottery made by high quality ceramic brands including Arita, Noritake, and Double Phoenix.

Arita and Mino are two main types of ceramic which best represent Japanese culture.

Arita is named after a town located in Nishimatsuura District of Saga Prefecture. The town holds the Arita Ceramic Fair - a large annual ceramics fair that took place from April 29 to May 5 this year.

Mino is named after one of the old provinces of Japan and is the birthplace of Mino ware, a type of Japanese pottery known for its sophisticated designs.

Different types of Japanese ceramic products can be identified based on their shape and pattern, which often resemble animals or flowers.

Japanese pottery’s popularity is due, in part, to its affordable price.

The trendy pottery, imported by way of sea or through Cambodia, is popping up all over Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and being sold weekly at local coffee shops.
