The landmark atop southern Vietnam's highest peak has just crossed a multi-million milestone in record time, but the massive crowd is only half the story as a unique cultural spectacle is quietly taking shape at the summit.

The tourist site in Tay Ninh Province welcomed its four millionth visitor of the year via cable car on July 27, operator Sun World Ba Den Mountain said, underscoring its draw as a leading spiritual and cultural destination in the south.

4 million arrivals in under 7 months

Tourist arrivals to Tay Ninh totaled an estimated 5.07 million in the first half of 2026, up 9.7 percent year on year, with Ba Den Mountain the main magnet, according to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

"This is an encouraging and proud number for us," said Dao Thi Viet, general director of Sun World Ba Den Mountain.

"We want to thank the people of Tay Ninh and the visitors who have chosen to come to the tallest mountain in southern Vietnam."

She said the company would keep innovating to give repeat visitors new experiences each time they return.

Beyond its scenery, the mountain is home to a centuries-old temple complex, including a bronze statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara billed as Asia's tallest, a sandstone Maitreya statue among the world's largest, and a rare Vietnamese statue of Kanakamuni Buddha in gold.

For many visitors, returning to Ba Den Mountain time and again throughout the year has become something of a habit for 'healing.'

"Just setting foot on the cool mountain peak, watching the sea of clouds drift by, and breathing in the fresh air amid a paradise of flowers is already a precious moment of relaxation," said Pham Thi Hanh, a Tay Ninh native.

Sun World has also built a calendar of recurring events at the site, including a record-setting lantern ceremony, the country's largest mountaintop 'Leaf Market,' and lantern, history and fruit-carving exhibitions, which it says have helped make Ba Den one of the region's top cultural tourism draws.

Ceramic exhibition returns on August 8

The company said a ceramics exhibition, Ceramic Sutra - Sound of the World, will run from August 8 to September 6, featuring more than 400 Buddhist-themed ceramic sculptures by artist Nguyen Tuan, known as Tuan Gom, and artisans from the Phu Lang pottery village in the northern province of Bac Ninh.

Visitors will also be able to join pottery-making workshops, watch a ceramics-themed stage show, play prize games, and buy small ceramic statues made by Phu Lang artisans.
