Nguyen Vu Linh, director of the national park, confirmed on Friday morning that the park was awarded the certification during the eighth ASEAN Heritage Parks Conference held in Quang Ninh Province on Wednesday.
The conference, co-organized by the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, brought together national park managers, conservation specialists, and international organizations to strengthen regional cooperation in biodiversity conservation.
The event received support from the European Union and the German government.
With the theme ‘ASEAN's Contribution to the Biodiversity Plan,’ the conference focused on nature-based solutions, climate resilience, sustainable resource management, and promoting the participation of local communities in conservation efforts.
The event featured plenary sessions, technical discussions, exhibitions, and field trips showcasing effective models for protected-area management and ecosystem restoration.
At the awarding ceremony, ACB and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment awarded ASEAN Heritage Park certificates to five sites in Vietnam, including Xuan Thuy National Park in Ninh Binh Province, Pu Mat National Park in Nghe An Province, Bach Ma National Park, Con Dao National Park in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve in Dong Nai Province.
Until now, the ASEAN region has had 69 ASEAN Heritage Parks, including 15 in Vietnam, reflecting the country’s significant contribution to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the ASEAN Biodiversity Plan, local media reported.
