Addressing a meeting on Friday, Truong Canh Tuyen, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said the Mekong City project is scheduled to break ground in June.
The project has already received planning approval, and bidding is underway to select investors.
Work on the Lung Ngoc Hoang resort project, involving Vietnamese conglomerate Sungroup and other enterprises, is expected to get off the ground in September.
On Thursday, the city’s administration approved the 1:2,000 zoning plan for the Mekong City project.
The development spans four communes, including Chau Thanh, Thanh Hoa, Phu Huu, and Dong Phuoc, and is designed as a resort-style urban area combining cultural, sports, and entertainment activities.
Plans include a water park, multipurpose sports center, golf course, and festival venues, positioning the city as a major tourism destination in the Mekong Delta.
Education and training facilities are also part of the project, with 16 high schools, 39 middle schools, 39 elementary schools, and 40 kindergartens.
Housing plans feature a mix of townhouses, five-story villas, and high-rise apartments reaching up to 35 floors.
