The Trang Bom Regional Health Center said the patient, identified as H.V.L., developed fever and skin lesions on November 24.
He sought treatment at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermato-Venereology four days later, where samples were sent to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and returned positive.
This is the first mpox case reported in Dong Nai in 2025.
Health officials said the man works as a self-employed vendor at a local market and has daily contact with many people.
He reported no travel outside his commune and no contact with foreigners from November 3 to 24, and said he had no sexual partners during the period before the symptom onset.
He lives with extended family and had close contact with three relatives, none of whom have shown symptoms, the center said.
Authorities launched contact tracing and community surveillance after confirming the case, and instructed the patient to self-isolate, use masks and follow hygiene measures to reduce transmission risk.
Health workers are monitoring close contacts and increasing public communication on mpox prevention.
The patient's lesions have improved and he has returned to normal daily activities, according to health officials.
