Kim’s current two-year contract runs until May 2026 and includes a clause allowing a one-year extension if performance targets are met.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said those targets were achieved after Vietnam won the 2024 ASEAN Cup and the under-22 team struck gold at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The extension keeps Kim in charge through the 2027 AFC Asian Cup cycle, with Vietnam still needing to secure qualification for the finals in Saudi Arabia.
The team will face a decisive match against Malaysia on March 31, 2026 after a 4-0 loss away earlier this year.
FIFA has sanctioned Malaysia over the use of naturalized players in that match, but the Asian Football Confederation has yet to announce further action.
Kim told reporters on Monday that he was happy working in Vietnam and said discussions on his contract would follow talks with the VFF chairman.
