Vietnam’s Gia Lai unveils tourism potential of Chu Dang Ya Volcano

Authorities in Gia Lai Province, Vietnam are working on a plan to include Chu Dang Ya Volcano in the planning for the Bien Ho-Chu Dang Ya tourism area.

Pham Anh Tuan, chairman of the Gia Lai People's Committee, recently met with relevant authorities to discuss the planning.

The current Gia Lai Province is formed by merging the former Gia Lai and Binh Dinh Provinces, effective from July 1.

Tuan recognized the Bien Ho-Chu Dang Ya tourism area as a unique geological and scenic resource of Gia Lai, with exceptional natural and cultural significance.

He has charged the Department of Construction with working with other agencies to expedite the planning process, aiming for completion by October.

Tuan said that the planning of the Bien Ho-Chu Dang Ya tourism area should be thorough and in-depth, ensuring a balance between preserving cultural heritage and natural landscapes and promoting sustainable tourism development.

The goal is to create a long-term, well-integrated development strategy that attracts both locals and tourists.

Located in Bien Ho Commune, Gia Lai Province, Chu Dang Ya Volcano is one of Vietnam’s most unique ancient volcanic craters.

Geologists believe that this volcano erupted millions of years ago, leaving behind a vast crater and fertile basalt soil.

Not only is it a fertile agricultural area thanks to the basalt soil, but Chu Dang Ya Volcano in Gia Lai Province, Vietnam is gradually becoming a popular tourist destination. Photo: Dung Nhan 

Today, the volcano is no longer active, offering a peaceful and captivating landscape.

During the dry season, particularly in November, the slopes of the volcano are covered in bright yellow wild sunflowers, making it a popular spot for tourists and photographers.

Beyond its natural beauty, Chu Dang Ya holds profound cultural value. 

The volcano is considered a sacred symbol by the local Jrai people, intertwined with numerous myths and traditional festivals.
