The new unit was officially created after the city’s Border Guard Command reorganized its existing UAV team into the unmanned vehicle platoon, which will operate under the command’s staff division.
Authorities said the move is part of broader efforts to modernize Vietnam’s military forces and build a more professional, elite and technologically advanced border guard force.
The platoon will help improve the management and protection of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and border security while increasing the force’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emerging situations.
The unit will be equipped with specialized technology, including anti-drone weapons designed to neutralize unauthorized unmanned aircraft operating in restricted airspace.
It will also operate various unmanned aerial vehicles for airspace reconnaissance, border surveillance, and the detection of potential intrusions across frontier areas.
In addition to security missions, the unit will deploy specialized UAVs for search-and-rescue operations, expanding the border guard’s capabilities during emergencies and natural disasters.
Colonel Hoang Minh Hung, commander of the Hue City Border Guard Command, said the establishment of the unmanned vehicle platoon represents an important step toward improving border management and safeguarding national security under evolving conditions.
He insisted on mastering new technologies, strengthening coordination with other forces, and ensuring readiness to respond effectively to incidents along borders and coastal areas.
