Vietnam’s local official expelled from Party over fatal drunk driving crash

A provincial Party Committee representative told Tuoi Tre (Youth) on Thursday that the decision followed thorough review and discussion by the committee’s Standing Board.

The provincial People’s Council was asked to initiate procedures to remove Manh from his position as a commune People’s Council delegate.

The accident occurred at around 8:30 pm on Monday, when Manh drove a government car from Nam Phong Restaurant to the Lang Chang village cultural house for a music event.

He lost control of the vehicle in the venue’s yard, striking attendees.

The crash killed eight-year-old Phan Duy K., a local resident, and injured 10 others, who were taken to a local medical center for treatment.

Three of the injured suffered multiple traumas and were transferred to higher-level hospitals.

Initial investigations found that Manh’s blood alcohol content measured 0.286mg per liter of breath.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause.

In its press release on Tuesday morning, the provincial Party Committee described the incident as serious and involving a local official.

In addition to legal proceedings, the committee ordered its Inspection Commission to expedite disciplinary measures against Manh and review related individuals and organizations.

The provincial police department’s Party Committee was tasked with verifying the violations and ensuring strict legal action.
