Vietnam's lychee capital Luc Ngan, other areas in Bac Ninh severely flooded due to storm Narra

The Luc Nam River has risen significantly in Luc Ngan Commune, flooding and isolating several areas, while the communes of Luc Nam and Son Dong, which are also major fruit-growing areas, have suffered severe flooding as a result of storm Narra, which is moving in the Gulf of Tonkin, part of the East Vietnam Sea.

Several sections of National Highway 31 remain impassable because of floodwaters, while hundreds of homes, factories, schools, and community centers have been heavily inundated, with powerful winds blowing off their roofs, according to the Bac Ninh Portal.

In Phuong Son Ward, some roads were submerged by more than one meter following prolonged heavy rain from Sunday afternoon, preventing vehicles from passing, local authorities reported.

The affected roads are expected to reopen in two to three days as floodwaters recede.

Traffic police and local authorities have been directing vehicles to alternative routes to Son Dong and Luc Ngan.

As of Monday, around 650 households had been evacuated and more than 1,000 households were affected by flooding in Phuong Son.

The ward administration has activated an emergency response plan to cope with the flooding, while monitoring weather conditions and reviewing areas at risk of flooding and landslides in preparation for further evacuations.

Meanwhile, flooding along the Luc Nam River has remained severe, with the river reaching a peak water level of 14.11 meters around 5:00 am on Monday, 1.11 meters above the third-level warning threshold, according to local authorities.

At Cong Bun pumping station in Tien Phong Ward, which drains a catchment covering around 5,600 hectares in Da Mai, Tien Phong, Viet Yen, and Nenh Wards, operators had been running 12 of 14 pumps since August 21 to drain floodwaters.

The station had also maintained its full workforce to ensure continuous and safe operation.

Bac Ninh leaders inspected flood prevention and response efforts at the station as well as in Phuong Son Ward and Luc Nam Commune on Monday.

Chairman of the provincial administration Pham Hoang Son had earlier urged local administrations to prevent flooding in industrial parks and urban areas, protect residents' daily lives, and maintain electricity supplies for production and households.
