The meeting is part of Vietnam’s Party leader Lam’s four-day state visit to South Korea.
He congratulated the South Korean people on their remarkable achievements and expressed confidence that South Korea would continue to grow strongly, reaching even greater accomplishments and elevating its position regionally and globally, with the National Assembly playing a vital role, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The Vietnamese Party chief proposed that both parliaments continue to effectively and comprehensively implement their signed cooperation agreements.
He called for enhanced collaboration and exchanges, including high-level visits and interactions among lawmakers, particularly young parliamentarians.
He also urged both sides to work closely together to effectively employ bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms.
This includes expanding market access for Vietnam’s key export products to South Korea, contributing to the goal of raising the bilateral trade volume to US$150 billion by 2030.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of boosting labor cooperation and high-quality human resource training, while ensuring favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in South Korea.
Speaker Woo expressed his belief that Party General Secretary Lam’s visit would generate new momentum for further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between South Korea and Vietnam.
He congratulated Vietnam on its recent development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and General Secretary Lam.
He expressed confidence that, with its potential and determination, Vietnam would continue its strong growth and achieve its goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing ties between the two countries across all fields and shared their desire to advance the Vietnam–South Korea partnership in a more substantive and comprehensive manner, in line with the comprehensive strategic partnership and the two countries' great development potential.
Parliamentary cooperation, they noted, plays a particularly important role in this relationship.
They praised the successful cooperation between the two parliaments and agreed to strengthen the legislative bodies’ role in coordinating, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of bilateral agreements.
This will help foster stronger, more effective, and comprehensive economic connectivity between the two nations.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern during the meeting.
Party General Secretary Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Seoul on Sunday afternoon for the state visit to South Korea.
The trip is undertaken at the invitation of President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung and his spouse.
This represents the first state visit to the East Asian nation by Lam in his current role, and he is notably the first foreign guest officially hosted by President Lee since the latter took office in June.
