Vietnam’s popular piracy streaming app Ro Phim shuts down

In a statement, the platform’s administrators said the decision was due to operational pressures and a change in future direction.

Ro Phim had been known as one of Vietnam’s most widely used illegal streaming apps, offering fast access to a large library of content sourced from paid platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and HBO.

The shutdown comes as Vietnamese authorities have stepped up efforts to curb copyright infringement, with the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism working with Internet service providers to block infringing domains.

Major international film industry groups have also increased legal pressure on servers hosting pirated content in Southeast Asia.

The announcement drew widespread reaction online, with users expressing mixed views ranging from support for stricter copyright enforcement to regret over the platform’s closure.
