​Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang passes away at 62

Vietnam’s State President Tran Dai Quang passed away on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.

The head of state died at Military Central Hospital 108 due to serious illness, despite the efforts of both Vietnamese and foreign doctors. the Vietnam News Agency said, citing the Board of Healthcare Services for Senior Officials.

Tran Dai Quang was born on October 12, 1956 in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

A career policeman, he enrolled in the People’s Police Academy at the age of 16 and served in the police force throughout his life

From August 2011 to March 2016, he was a Politburo member and Minister of Public Security. He was promoted to Senior Lieutenant General in 2011 and General in 2012.

Quang was elected State President at the 11th session of the lawmaking National Assembly on April 2, 2016.

His official term was due to end in 2021.

Quang was also a professor in security science.
