Vietnamese authorities have managed to take a Ukrainian seaman to shore for emergency care after the sailor suffered acute pancreatitis aboard a ship en route to Malaysia from China.
The emergency rescue on Thursday probably saved the life of Kaidalov Oleksandr, a 28-year-old mechanic on the Liberian-flagged IAH H ship, which was on its way from China to Malaysia.
The captain phoned the Maritime Rescue Center (Zone 4) and asked for help as the Ukrainian continuously vomited before falling into unconsciousness and lying immobile.
He was later diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.
Swift action by the SAR27-01, a craft from the Maritime Rescue Center in Zone 4, got the Ukrainian man to a hospital in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa.
