Vietnam’s Vietlott player hits $7.68mn jackpot, 10-year record

Vietlott announced that its Mega 6/45 draw on Sunday evening produced one jackpot winner, with the prize worth VND199,576,277,000 (about $7.68 million).

The winning numbers were 15-20-29-37-40-45, according to Vietlott.

The prize is the highest jackpot ever awarded by Mega 6/45 in the past 10 years, the company said.

Under Vietnam's personal income tax regulations, the jackpot winner will have to pay nearly VND20 billion (nearly $770,000) in personal income tax, calculated at 10 percent of the portion of the prize exceeding VND20 million ($770).

The tax will be deducted when the winner claims the prize.

The Sunday draw also set a record for the number of first-prize winners, with 153 customers each receiving VND10 million ($385), according to Vietlott.

Vietlott data showed that the Mega 6/45 jackpot began accumulating at VND12 billion ($462,000) from the August 5 draw.

After 27 draws, it had risen to $7.68 million by Sunday.

Once the jackpot exceeded VND100 billion ($3.85 million), its value increased rapidly in several recent draws, by around VND20 billion ($770,000) per draw, significantly faster than during the early stage of the accumulation cycle.

In a separate draw on Saturday, Vietlott's Power 6/55 Jackpot 1 worth more than VND112.7 billion ($4.34 million) remained without a winner.

Jackpot 2 also continued to accumulate, reaching more than VND3.7 billion ($142,370).

Vietlott's next Power 6/55 draw is scheduled for next Tuesday.
