The CAAV has sent an official notice to the administration in Nghe An Province and relevant aviation units regarding the airport closure.
The authority has instructed the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Vinh Airport to comply fully with legal regulations on investment and construction during the airport’s temporary closure.
These units are responsible for coordinating with the contractor to ensure safety, security, fire prevention, environmental hygiene, and disease control during the construction.
Based on the Ministry of Construction’s decision approving the temporary closure, the CAAV has requested ACV to work directly with and provide necessary data to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation for carrying out aviation notification procedures as required.
According to ACV’s 2025 plan, the corporation will undertake three major projects at Vinh Airport, including runway, terminal, and apron upgrades, with a total investment of nearly VND1 trillion (US$38.2 million).
The passenger terminal T1 renovation project is valued at VND68.36 billion ($2.6 million), aiming to increase capacity to 3–3.5 million passengers per year by 2030.
The runway and taxiway repair project, involving a 2,400-meter-long, 45-meter-wide runway along with two taxiways, brake strips, and safety zones, has an investment of over VND623 billion ($23.8 million).
The apron expansion project, designed to accommodate nine Code C aircraft, such as Airbus A320, A321, and equivalents, has an investment of VND236.63 billion ($9 million).
Following a proposal by the Nghe An People’s Committee, the Ministry of Construction has agreed in principle to study a plan to extend the runway to 3,000 meters from 2,400 meters, to be carried out concurrently with the ongoing repair works.
