The companies said the partnership would combine KDDI's experience operating digital mobile services in Japan with VNPT's nationwide telecommunications infrastructure and distribution network in Vietnam.
KDDI will contribute expertise from its 'povo' digital mobile brand in Japan, which focuses on personalized services and digital user experiences, while VNPT will provide network infrastructure and local market access.
The two groups said they would invest financial, technological, and human resources into the project, with plans to launch the new mobile service in Vietnam in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The partnership was expected to support digital transformation and strengthen economic ties between Vietnam and Japan.
