The announcement quickly drew attention from film enthusiasts, with many expressing both surprise and excitement, noting that it has been quite a long time since VTV3 last aired the Oscars live.
Some viewers believe the last time the ceremony was broadcast live on the channel was about 16 years ago.
Others said that while VTV airing the Academy Awards is not entirely surprising, the decision to broadcast it on VTV3, a channel with a fairly fixed morning schedule, is an interesting move.
According to VTV, the live broadcast will include Vietnamese interpretation covering the on-stage proceedings, the moments when awards are announced, and the host’s exchanges with guests.
The 98th Academy Awards will be broadcast live at 5:30 am (GMT +7) on March 16 on VTV3 and the VTVgo platform; and will be rebroadcast at 9:00 pm the same day on VTV3.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 15.
Comedian and late-night TV host Conan O'Brien will return to emcee the annual Academy Awards ceremony for a second time in 2026, following his appearance at the awards in 2025.
O'Brien hosted the 2025 Oscars telecast that drew 19.7 million U.S. viewers, the largest audience for Hollywood’s top honors in five years, Reuters reported.
This year also marks the introduction of the first-ever award for achievement in casting, formally recognizing the role casting directors play in shaping a film’s vision and overall success.
