The municipal department said on Thursday that professional units and local police forces had launched coordinated inspections to detect and book violators involving the unauthorized use of drones and other unmanned flying objects.

A preliminary report showed that between August 27 and September 2, officers detected 122 cases of violations of flight regulations.

Accordingly, numerous drones and unmanned aerial devices were seized.

Police said that in cases showing signs of criminal offenses, authorities would continue to strengthen the case files for criminal prosecution in accordance with the law.

As many as 62 wards and communes and a special zone across the city currently fall within designated no-fly zones.

The investigative police agency on August 28 initiated a criminal case, prosecuted and detained 42-year-old Than Van Tan, a resident of Tan Binh Ward, for investigation into the offense of ‘obstructing air traffic’ under Clause 2, Article 278 of the Criminal Code.

Tan allegedly flew kites fitted with flashing lights within the no-fly zone of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, prompting the flight management and operations center to temporarily suspend the acceptance of arriving aircraft on the evening of August 13.

The incident affected 16 flights, with several aircraft having to divert to alternate airports, causing heavy losses.

Police call on residents, organizations, and individuals, particularly those providing filming, photography and other related services, to strictly comply with legal regulations governing unmanned aircraft.

People are strictly prohibited from flying kites or releasing balloons, sky lanterns and other objects, or operating unauthorized unmanned aerial devices in areas covered by aviation safety corridors.
