The incident occurred late on Monday in Ma Da Commune, Vinh Cuu District, near the Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve.

According to local authorities, a herd of four elephants had earlier been seen damaging crops in farmland bordering the protected forest.

Later that night, the animals returned to the area.

The victim, identified only as T., was killed after confronting the elephants on his property.

His body was found about 100 meters from his house in a field planted with earleaf acacia and mango trees.

Police and local prosecutors visited the scene and investigated the incident.

Officials said the area is close to where a baby elephant was found dead after falling into a well on May 4.

At that time, a female elephant and several others were seen attempting to rescue the calf before leaving the area.
