A woman safely gave birth to a baby girl on a train en route from Ho Chi Minh City to central Da Nang City on Wednesday thanks to support from train staff and a doctor who happened to be a passenger on the same trip, a railway official said.
Doan Kim Tuan, head of the passenger transport team at Da Nang Railway Station, said Cao Thi My D., a passenger aboard the SE22 train departing from Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday evening, went into labor as the train was passing through central Quang Nam Province.
A train attendant immediately informed the engine driver of the situation, who then proceeded to make an announcement asking if there were any medical workers aboard the train.
With the support of train attendants and a doctor, D. safely gave birth to her baby.
As soon as the train reached the Da Nang Station, staff on the train and at the station rushed the woman and her baby to a hospital for further care.
Tuan said several passengers have delivered their babies on trains in Vietnam and train employees have received training related to such situations.
