A wooden boat explodes while traveling on the Saigon River, throwing three people into the water and leaving one dead. Photo captured from video.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 am in the section of the river running through Binh Quoi Ward.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion before seeing flames engulf the boat and a large plume of smoke rise from the river.
Authorities, including firefighters, rescue teams and waterway police, were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze and conduct search-and-rescue operations.
Preliminary findings showed that the explosion threw three people from the boat into the river.
A woman died in the incident, while the two remaining victims were rescued by people aboard nearby boats and brought safely to shore.
The boat was completely destroyed by the fire along with its belongings on board.
Authorities are working to identify the victims, assess the damage and determine the cause of the explosion.
Initial assessments suggest that a gas cylinder blast may have triggered the incident.
