Ho Chi Minh City police have busted a facility that sells monosodium glutamate originating in China under the brand name of Ajinomoto.
On June 27, police caught Khuu Vien Huan, hailing from Binh Tan District, red-handed as he was transporting 188 packs of fake Ajinomoto to deliver to customers.
Officers also raided the facilities at 9 Xom Voi and 41 Tran Chanh Chieu in District 5 and seized a carton of Ajinomoto packaging, 13 cartons and 20 sacks of the Ajinomoto product, 50 sacks of Chinese MSG, each weighing 25 kilograms, and other manufacturing equipment.
The facilities are run by Tran Thi Trang, 42, hailing from Tan Phu District, while Huan is only her employee, according to police.
Trang confessed to police that she has been buying cheap MSG from China and selling as fake Ajinomoto for a year.
Police are investigating further.
