Woman suffers serious eye injury in dog attack in northern Vietnam

A woman suffered a serious eye injury after being attacked by a dog in Phu Tho Province, northern Vietnam.

Doctors at Hung Vuong General Hospital in Phu Tho Province confirmed on Monday that a 40-year-old woman was admitted to the facility for emergency treatment following a dog attack.

Family members said she was bitten by a dog on her left eye, and the attack lasted for several minutes before they were able to free the victim from the canine.

The patient was bleeding profusely and was diagnosed with a conjunctival tear and damaged tear duct.

Doctors gave the patient first aid to stop the bleeding and relieve pain, as well as administering her a rabies vaccine before performing surgery.

Thanks to her prompt treatment, the patient did not lose vision in her wounded eye.

She is being monitored at the hospital and is expected to be discharged sometime in the next few days.

In a related case, a 31-year-old English teacher suffered serious brain injury after her motorbike hit a stray dog in Phu Tho Province on March 7.

Following treatment, the patient is now responsive and able to move her fingers and toes.
