The Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway’s first subproject, which will run through Dong Thap Province in southern Vietnam, is scheduled to get off the ground on June 25.

The provincial steering committee in charge of the development of the subproject on Thursday held a meeting to make preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony.

To develop the entire route’s first phase in the 2022-25 period, the subproject was allocated a fund of VND2.156 trillion (US$91.8 million), according to a report of the provincial People’s Committee.

Up to now, nearly VND539 billion ($22.9 million) has been disbursed for the subproject as planned for 2023.

Also, site clearance is 96 percent complete, with 511 affected local households having received compensation and 117 plots of land having been handed over to those subject to resettlement.

Pham Thien Nghia, chairman of the provincial administration and deputy head of the steering committee, asked relevant units to urgently prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony as planned.

Le Quoc Phong, chief of the provincial Party Committee and head of the steering committee, underlined the need of completing site clearance and compensation as soon as possible.

Phong stressed that the Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway is the country’s major road project and demanded that relevant units have to actively work to execute the subproject, which is slated for completion in October 2025.

The 27.43km Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway will start from an intersection linking with the My An - Cao Lanh Expressway in Dong Thap’s Cao Lanh District to another intersection linking with the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway section in southern Tien Giang Province’s Cai Be District.

The project will cost an estimated VND5.886 trillion ($251.2 million) backed by the state budget.

Work on the entire route is slated to be underway from 2022 to 2027.

In the first phase, the route will have four lanes with a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

According to the prime minister’s decision, the project comprises two components.

The first subproject, some 16 kilometers long, will be located in Dong Thap, while the second one, some 11.43 kilometers long, will span Dong Thap and Tien Giang.
