World leaders congratulate Vietnam’s re-elected Party chief To Lam

Leaders from many countries, including China, Russia, Japan, North Korea, Cuba, and Cambodia, have sent congratulatory messages to To Lam on his re-election as general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) at the recent 14th National Party Congress.

In his message, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and President of China Xi Jinping praised Vietnam’s major achievements in socialist construction and its Doi Moi (Renovation) process, noting that the country’s international role and standing have continued to rise.

He voiced confidence that Vietnam would achieve greater accomplishments under the leadership of the CPV’s new Central Party Committee and pledged to work with Party General Secretary Lam to deepen ties between the two Parties and the two countries, as well as promote the building of a China–Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated Lam, saying the voting results reflected his political prestige and broad recognition of his contributions to shaping and implementing strategic guidelines for rapid socio-economic development and safeguarding Vietnam’s interests on the international stage.

He said Russia highly values Lam’s role in strengthening the Vietnam–Russia comprehensive strategic partnership and would continue expanding all-round cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples and for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

President of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister of Japan Sanae Takaichi congratulated the CPV on the successful organization of its 14th National Party Congress and on Lam’s continued service as a Politburo member and Party general secretary.

She expressed her expectation that under the new leadership, the CPV will continue guiding Vietnam toward ‘a new era of development,’ while contributing to stability in the Indo-Pacific region and to development, cooperation, and prosperity in the international community.

In his congratulatory message, North Korea’s leader expressed his belief that under Lam’s leadership, Vietnam will successfully implement the resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, and voiced his hope that the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two Parties and the two countries will continue to develop.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue to develop strongly under Lam’s leadership, while maintaining its important role in the region and the world.

He said he hopes Vietnam–Cambodia relations will continue to grow in the interests of peace, stability, cooperation, and national development.

Cambodian People’s Party President Hun Sen also sent congratulations, saying Lam’s re-election reflects the high level of trust placed in him by the CPV and the Vietnamese people.

He expressed confidence that the two countries’ good-neighborly relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation will continue to be strengthened and developed in a sustainable manner.

First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez congratulated Lam on his re-election, expressing his hope that the Party chief will achieve new successes and fulfill the goals set by the 14th National Party Congress.

In his message, Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh affirmed his readiness to work closely with Lam to advance the Mongolia–Vietnam comprehensive partnership in a substantive and in-depth manner across all fields.

Among other world leaders, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Palestinian President and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Mahmoud Abbas also congratulated Lam on his re-election and expressed confidence in further strengthening bilateral ties with Vietnam.

Beyond national leaders, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn congratulated Lam and praised Vietnam’s significant role and contributions to peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

He said the ASEAN Secretariat stands ready to support Vietnam and other member states in advancing ASEAN Community-building and regional connectivity.

ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Secretary-General Chem Widhya congratulated the CPV on the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress and expressed his hope that AIPA will continue to work closely with Vietnam to strengthen cooperation in the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and mutual understanding, contributing to a peaceful, prosperous, and people-centered ASEAN.

The 14th National Party Congress was held at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi from January 19 to 23.

The new Central Party Committee voted unanimously to retain To Lam as general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 14th term, which lasts five years, following procedures set out in the Party’s charter and internal regulations.
