A young man in Vietnam was fined and had his driver’s license suspended last week after a video of him riding a motorbike with his eyes covered emerged on social media.
Police in Da Nang required M.D.L., a 19-year-old man, to pay a VND7.4 million (US$320) fine and decided to revoke his driver’s license for three months on Saturday.
L.’s motorbike will also be impounded for a week, police officers said.
In mid-April, a local resident shot a video of L. driving his friend on a motorbike in Ngu Hanh Son District with his head and eyes covered, according to his statement to police.
The footage was uploaded to the video-sharing platform TikTok and subsequently sent to the Da Nang traffic police bureau.

In the video, L. can be seen driving blindfolded and with no helmet on, while his bike is not equipped with a left rear-view mirror as required by law.
After seeing the clip, traffic police summoned L. together with the other person riding pillion to the local police station for interrogation.
At the police station, L. claimed to have borrowed a motorbike from his landlord for the ride in question.
He also admitted to blindfolding himself and not wearing a helmet when he was recorded in mid-April.
