Youth in Hanoi join no-plastic-pollution event hosted by US Embassy

A number of young people in Hanoi joined the U.S. Embassy on Thursday to spread awareness for a campaign aimed at minimizing plastic pollution.

The ‘End Plastic Pollution’ event, attended by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink, took place at the Hanoi-based American Center, part of the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Department.

The purpose of the event was to raise general awareness for eliminating the use of disposable plastic bottles, cups, and drinking straws and switching to recyclable shopping bags.

“We wish everyone to change themselves first, and then spread the environmental protection message to others,” said Do Le Binh, the American Center’s director.

Visitors, mostly children and students, participated by making products from plastic bottles and taking photos for an exhibition on eco-friendliness.   

“I want to give my daughter a chance to understand what younger generations need to do to safeguard the environment,” said Nguyen Hoang Diep, a 40-year-old mother who attended the event with her child.
