According to a report by the Quang Ngai People's Committee, over the past five years under the provincial Party Committee's Resolution No. 06 on sustainable forestry development, the province has made significant progress in forest management, protection, and development, with digital technology playing a key role.
To date, all forest management units in the province have integrated GIS, remote sensing imagery, and GPS into forest management and monitoring.
Healthier forests, stronger economy
The digitization of forest data has enabled the early detection of changes in forest areas, allowing forest rangers and forest owners to better monitor forest conditions and promptly address encroachments and other violations affecting forest resources.
Combined with strengthened forest patrols and inspections, the use of digital technologies has contributed to a sharp decline in violations of the Forestry Law in the province.
The number of recorded cases fell from 709 in 2020 to 90 in 2025, a decrease of nearly 87 percent.
During the 2020-25 period, Quang Ngai maintained its forest coverage at 59.45 percent.
The province planted more than 160,900 hectares of concentrated forests in five years, averaging over 32,000 hectares annually, along with approximately 37 million scattered trees.
It also restored nearly 6,590 hectares of forests through natural regeneration and improved more than 420 hectares through forest enrichment.
Protection and special-use forests have largely been well preserved, while the area of natural forests affected by human activities has declined significantly.
Meanwhile, the cultivation area of Vietnamese Ngoc Linh ginseng under forest canopies has exceeded 3,228 hectares, equivalent to 71.7 percent of the target set under the resolution.

In terms of forest land allocation, more than 11,100 hectares of forests and forestry land have been allocated to households, individuals, and local communities for management and protection in accordance with regulations.
Beyond conserving forest resources, Quang Ngai has also focused on increasing the economic value of its forestry sector.
Over the past five years, the province harvested approximately 15.7 million cubic meters of timber, averaging more than 2.6 million cubic meters annually, supplying materials to wood processing, wood pellet, plywood, and paper manufacturers.
Total investment mobilized for forestry development exceeded VND14.6 trillion (US$555 million), sourced from the state budget, forest environmental service payments, businesses, and local residents.
For the 2026-30 period, Quang Ngai aims to raise its forest coverage to 60 percent and expand the area of forests certified under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sustainable forest management standard to about 40,000 hectares.
The province also plans to mobilize around VND19 trillion ($722 million) to develop a modern, green, and multi-value forestry sector that contributes more significantly to local economic growth.
