Investigators determined that between January 14 and 18 this year, facilities managed by Pham Thi Tham, 46, and Pham Thi Tinh, 42, used 6-benzylaminopurine, a chemical not permitted in food production, to accelerate sprout growth before selling them to the market.
Authorities charged both women under Article 317, Clause 1 of the Penal Code for “violating food safety regulations.”
Investigators’ decisions to charge both individuals have been approved by the province's People’s Procuracy of Region 5.
The case remains under investigation as police continue to clarify details and determine the full extent of violations.
