According to local authorities, the downpour lasted about 30 minutes.
At around 4:00 pm, the 1.5-meter-high retaining wall behind a makeshift house in an alley on Hung Vuong Street, Xuan Truong Ward suddenly gave way, sending soil and rocks into the nearby Tay Ho café and burying two customers.
Both victims died at the scene.

The retaining wall collapse occurred in a sparsely populated area far from main roads.
The downpour also inundated parts of Da Lat, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents.
In Alley 28 on Lu Gia Street in Lam Vien Ward, water from a nearby stream rose to nearly one meter, isolating dozens of households.
