Nguyen Chi Dan, chairman of Tam Xuan Commune in Da Nang City, the same day confirmed the incident, which occurred on the section of the expressway passing through the commune.
He said that the crash happened at around 4:12 am.

The passenger van, bearing license plate 29B-081.62 and carrying 12 passengers, was traveling northbound from Quang Ngai Province to Da Nang City when it slammed into the rear of the tractor-trailer.
The truck, with license plate 15C-36035 and towing trailer 15R-14906, was being driven in the same direction by 43-year-old Bui Manh Thang from Hai Phong City.
The collision caused severe damage to the front of the van, leaving it crumpled.
Three passengers were killed at the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
The identities of the deceased and the current condition of the injured have not yet been released.

Rescue teams and traffic police arrived promptly to support passengers trapped in the van, transport the injured to medical facilities, and remove the bodies of the deceased.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
