8 injured as bus carrying bank staff plunges into ravine in northern Vietnam

Police are investigating the cause of a passenger bus accident in Tam Dao Commune, Phu Tho Province, northern Vietnam on Sunday after the vehicle plunged into a ravine, leaving eight people injured, local authorities said.

According to Tran Anh Tu, chairman of the Tam Dao administration, the crash occurred around 1:20 pm when a 29-seater bus carrying staff from Bac A Bank’s Hanoi branch veered off the mountain road and plunged into a ravine while descending from the Tam Dao tourist area.

The bus, driven by 64-year-old Luu Dinh Thanh from Hanoi, was part of a convoy of three vehicles.

The first bus descended safely, the second crashed, and the third had not yet begun its descent.

Of the 29 passengers, eight were injured.

Some with minor injuries have returned home, while others remain hospitalized at Phu Tho General Hospital in Vinh Phuc.

Three victims suffered serious injuries, including Nguyen Thu Huyen, born 1984; Nguyen Thu Trang, born 1996; and Tran Hoang Minh, born 2021, all from Hanoi.

Provincial leaders, including Vu Viet Van, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, and Colonel Nguyen Van Cong, deputy chief of the provincial police department, arrived at the scene to oversee rescue operations and support the victims’ families.

Tran Duy Dong, chairman of the provincial administration, directed police to investigate the cause, ensure traffic safety, and coordinate with health services for emergency treatment.

The provincial Department of Construction was tasked with repairing damaged infrastructure to restore safe travel.
