Society

-- A tropical depression in the East Vietnam Sea is forecast to strengthen into a storm on Friday, bringing widespread heavy rain from northern Vietnam and north-central Thanh Hoa Province to central Da Nang City from this late afternoon through Sunday.

-- Heavy rain from storm Kajiki, which made landfall in north-central Vietnam on Monday, has caused flash floods over the past few days in Yen Khuong Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, washing hundreds of cubic meters of soil and rocks into a school in Sang Hang Village.

-- Traffic on the Binh Trieu 1 Bridge and Pham Van Dong Boulevard in Ho Chi Minh City’s Hiep Binh Ward was severely congested during Thursday’s evening rush hour, two days after authorities banned cars from the bridge at 4:45 pm on Tuesday to raise its clearance height.

-- In another instance of heavy congestion in Ho Chi Minh City, traffic was bumper-to-bumper on Bach Dang Street, the main route to Tan Son Nhat airport, and surrounding roads on Thursday's evening rush hour, with motorbikes weaving between cars.

Infrastructure

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on Thursday approved a VND12.44 trillion (US$471.6 million) city-funded project to build the Go Cong interchange and a connecting ramp from Hanoi Highway to the Go Cong junction on Ring Road 3, with work scheduled from 2025 to 2029.

-- Cyprus-based IPTP Networks launched the AIDC DeCenter data center project on Thursday at Da Nang Hi-Tech Park in central Vietnam. Backed by a $200-million investment, the two-story facility will cover 10,000 square meters, hold 1,000 racks, have a minimum power capacity of 10 megawatts, with its construction set to start in early 2026.

Travel

-- An operator representative said on Thursday that all passengers riding Ho Chi Minh City’s metro line 1 on Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) will travel free of charge, and new cashless ticketing options will be introduced across the entire line.

-- Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has said it expects more than 1.8 million passengers and around 11,000 flights to take off and land at airports nationwide during the five-day peak period celebrating the country’s 80th National Day from Friday to next Tuesday.

-- Hanoi’s Department of Construction on Thursday instructed agencies to adjust several bus routes, suspend the city tour bus, and run metro trains until after 3:00 am during rehearsals and the National Day parade on September 2.
