-- State President Luong Cuong and his spouse, together with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Luanda on Friday, successfully concluding a state visit to Angola at the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço and his spouse.

-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a message on the occasion of the 58th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the grouping, reaffirming the country’s commitment to a united, dynamic, and sustainable regional community.

-- Various parts of Vietnam are expected to see hot to extremely hot weather today, while a tropical depression over the East Vietnam Sea is causing thunderstorms and strong winds, according to the national weather forecasting center.

-- Vietnam’s maritime rescue force on Friday afternoon deployed the SAR 413 vessel to save 20 crew members from the Vietnamese-flagged oil tanker GT Unity, which caught fire about 104 nautical miles southeast of Con Dao Island, now a special zone administered by Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam confirmed on Friday they have detained for four months three Chinese nationals, including Zhou Yonglin, 48; Yuan Tao, 36; and Wang Hao, 34, on charges of violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals.

-- The city’s Index of Industrial Production rose 5.4 percent in the first seven months of 2025, the highest in three years, according to the municipal Statistics Office.

-- The city may ban commercial fuel-powered vehicles that fail to meet emission standards from entering its downtown low-emission zone starting January 1, 2026, according to a proposal discussed at a meeting on green transport on Friday.

World News

-- U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to negotiate an end to the military conflict in Ukraine, Trump said on Friday, according to Reuters.

-- New Delhi has put on hold its plans to procure new U.S. weapons and aircraft, according to three Indian officials familiar with the matter, in India's first concrete sign of discontent after tariffs imposed on its exports by President Donald Trump dragged ties to their lowest level in decades, Reuters reported.
