-- The Ministry of Construction has given the green light to a proposal submitted by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to launch bus routes connecting Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport in neighboring Dong Nai City.

-- Police in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam announced on Wednesday that they had filed smuggling charges against four suspects while expanding their investigation into a transnational diamond smuggling ring, seizing another 354 diamonds of various types worth nearly VND69 billion (US$2.6 million).

-- The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a plan to inspect five companies engaged in the trading of gold, silver, diamonds, and gemstones.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Many leading U.S. companies in the fields of culture, sports, technology, and finance praised Ho Chi Minh City’s rapid development and expressed interest in investing in the city during meetings with the city’s delegation as part of its business trip to the United States from July 14 to 21.

-- Ho Chi Minh City plans to develop 13 high-tech agricultural areas and 10 agricultural zones by 2030 to strengthen food production and ensure a stable food supply to its population.

-- Many medical centers in the southern metropolis continue to lack specialized physicians and healthcare personnel, while facing heavy workloads.

-- Tan Dinh Market in Tan Dinh Ward became noticeably more colorful and bustling on Wednesday as merchants donned ao ba ba (a traditional garment typically worn by people in southern Vietnam) or ao dai (the Vietnamese traditional long gown), and signs offering 5-10 percent discounts were displayed throughout the market to mark the 100th anniversary of its founding.

-- The city plans to expand tourism offerings centered on performing arts, cultural heritage, and festivals to encourage longer visitor stays, strengthen the city’s appeal, and drive up night-time economic growth.

Economy

-- Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast has exported more than 5,000 EVs aboard the Sea Patris and Silver Queen to Europe, the Philippines, and Indonesia, marking the company’s 37th and 38th international shipments since late 2022.
