-- The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on Sunday afternoon warned that another spell of heavy rain is expected to hit northern Vietnam from Monday evening, with the heaviest downpours forecast in the northern midlands and mountainous areas, where rainfall could exceed 250mm in some places.

-- Police in Quang Ngai Province on Sunday said they have prosecuted 24 people in connection with an online football betting ring that handled nearly VND1.2 trillion (US$45.5 million) in transactions.

-- Dan Tri newspaper, in collaboration with Dak Lak Province authorities, on Sunday afternoon handed over 50 flood-resistant floating houses to disadvantaged families in Dong Xuan and Tuy An Bac communes under a VND2 billion ($75,987) project, with VND1.75 billion ($66,489) contributed by the newspaper's readers.

-- About 30 diamond businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have suspended operations since early July, Nguyen Van Dung, chairman of the Saigon Jewelry Association (SJA), said, attributing the closures to business difficulties, severe cash flow pressure, and a surge in customers selling back their diamonds.

-- Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, deputy director of the State Bank of Vietnam's Region 2 branch, has urged the public to stay calm and carefully consider any decisions to buy or sell gold and diamonds after a series of recent criminal cases involving the diamond sector affected public confidence, advising people to trade with licensed businesses and retain all invoices, warranties, and certification documents.

-- A live television program honoring Vietnam's fallen soldiers and the teams searching for, recovering, and identifying their remains was broadcast live on VTV1 from four locations in Tuyen Quang, Hanoi, Quang Tri, and Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening to mark the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27).

-- Typhoon Noul will bring heavy to torrential rain across much of southern China for the next two days, authorities said, after sweeping through Guangdong province and neighbouring ‌Hong Kong with gale-force winds following its landfall on Sunday, Reuters reported.
