Society

-- Police in Hanoi said a car driver involved in a chain collision on Nguyen Chanh Street on Friday had a breath alcohol level of 0.264 mg per liter after his vehicle struck a taxi and then hit multiple cars and motorbikes, leaving four people injured and damaging six cars and four motorbikes.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has proposed establishing a nationwide surveillance system for non-communicable diseases under a draft regulation, covering illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic respiratory conditions, as well as risk factors including smoking, alcohol use, poor diet, lack of physical activity and environmental factors such as air pollution.

-- Police in An Giang Province, southern Vietnam said on Friday they had fined a 48-year-old man VND7.5 million (US$286) for posting images on Facebook advertising wildlife specimens for sale, including tiger claws, bear fangs, and items resembling ivory products.

-- Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam said on Friday they had arrested and charged a 44-year-old Chinese national with violating regulations on the protection of endangered animals after investigators found a dead Javan pangolin at a restaurant kitchen and determined he had directed staff to buy the live animal and have it slaughtered and cooked for customers.

Ho Chi Minh City

-- Ho Chi Minh City will launch helicopter sightseeing tours on March 11 departing from Vung Tau Airport, offering flights of 15 to 60 minutes, with prices starting at VND2.9 million ($111) per person for a 15-minute trip.

Economy

-- Credit rating and financial research company S&I Ratings said in a report that the State Bank of Vietnam has set a credit growth target of about 15 percent for 2026, lower than the 19.1 percent recorded in 2025 but in line with the initial guidance targets for 2022–24.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said fuel supply for March would be sufficient as domestic refineries Dung Quat and Nghi Son continue operating normally and importers maintain shipments, but warned supply could become more difficult if conflict in the Middle East continues into April.

-- Brokerage Vietcap said the likelihood that Vietnam will fail to pass FTSE Russell’s March mid-cycle market classification review is zero, describing the review as a procedural step in the evaluation process for a potential market upgrade.

Sports

-- Vietnam will face Taiwan at 12:00 pm (Vietnam time) and India will play Japan at 6:00 pm in Group C matches at the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup on Saturday, with both games broadcast live on the TV360 platform.
