-- A magnitude-4.0 earthquake struck Muong Hung Commune in Son La Province, northern Vietnam at 7:52 pm on Sunday at a depth of about 10.2 km, with authorities initially assessing no natural disaster risk, according to the Institute of Earth Sciences under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

-- A severe thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds damaged 47 houses, including three that collapsed completely, in Long Phu Thuan Commune, Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam on Sunday afternoon, with total losses estimated at about VND937 million (US$35,617).

-- Police in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Sunday returned VND30.7 million ($1,167) to its owner after a Grab driver who found the lost cash handed it over to the city’s criminal police department.

-- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and partners on Sunday organized a health campaign in Bac Ninh Province that provided free medical check-ups and consultations for more than 3,000 industrial workers.

-- Vietnam has restarted its first industrial-scale sorbitol production plant in Tay Ninh Province, a 30,000-tonne-per-year facility backed by an investment of VND1.078 trillion ($41 million), as the country seeks to reduce reliance on imported supplies of the sugar alcohol used in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other industries.

-- Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) said it would contribute VND35 billion ($1.3 million) for a 35-percent stake in newly established Vietnam Green Energy Infrastructure JSC, a VND100-billion ($3.8 million) venture formed with Xuan Cau Holdings and Selex Motors to provide electric vehicle charging, battery-swapping, and related energy services.

-- Vietnamese agribusiness firm Hoang Anh Gia Lai on Sunday signed an investment memorandum with Laos for a $50 million high-quality coffee plantation project spanning 5,000 hectares in Champasak Province.
