Society

-- High tides exceeding warning level 3 on Monday caused flooding in many parts of Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, making it difficult for residents to get around, with the tide peaking at 2.17 meters at 7:30pm at the Can Tho hydrological station on the Hau River.

-- Several reservoirs in Khanh Hoa Province are showing signs of leakage and severe slope erosion ahead of the upcoming rainy and flood season, prompting the south-central province to order preparations of sufficient materials and manpower to respond immediately to any incidents.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has urgently asked the health departments of Can Tho City and Dong Thap Province to verify media reports about private clinics in the Mekong Delta conducting job-related health checks and issuing health certificates in an unusually short time.

-- Quang Ninh City Police and the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Cyber Security and Hi-tech Crime Prevention have busted an online scam ring involved in asset appropriation, illegal trading of personal data and money laundering, which allegedly defrauded thousands of victims nationwide of more than VND1 trillion (US$38.5 million).

-- The Department of Livestock Production and Veterinary Medicine and the Animal Husbandry Association of Vietnam are working with agencies and localities to research and develop breeds, with a view to turning Mong cattle and deer velvet antler into national-brand products, similar to Korean red ginseng and Japanese Kobe beef.

Economy

-- Nguyen Manh Cuong, vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, on Monday received and held talks with Deputy Consul General of South Korea in Ho Chi Minh City Kwon Tae Han and his delegation, with the Korean side highlighting strong potential for cooperation with Vietnam in creative fields, including cinema, and calling for more opportunities for exchanges and collaboration in these areas.

-- Vietnam posted a trade deficit of US$20.46 billion in the first eight months of 2026, with computers, electronic products and components alone recording a trade deficit of US$60.57 billion, according to the Statistics Office.

Travel

-- The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) office in Vietnam on Monday held a Japan incentive travel promotion seminar in Can Tho City, drawing tourism officials and around 40 travel companies from Can Tho and the Mekong Delta.
