-- A resident of Nam Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam, was killed by lightning while fishing near the shore, the commune People’s Committee confirmed on Tuesday.

-- Police in An Giang Province, southern Vietnam, said on Tuesday that they had prosecuted a local woman and barred her from leaving her place of residence for allegedly assigning an unqualified person to operate a speedboat, which capsized off Phu Quoc on July 11, killing 15 Indian tourists.

-- Dozens of metric tons of garbage and decaying wood washed ashore, piling up along Nhat Le Beach in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam, after heavy rains caused by the recent tropical depression.

-- At noon on Monday, Kim Lien Ward in Hanoi suspended electricity and clean water supplies and banned new deliveries at Kim Lien Market, temporarily closing the market to address fire prevention and firefighting shortcomings, leaving many vendors worried about losing their livelihoods as no temporary market had been arranged and no reopening date has been set.

Economy

-- The People’s Committee in Ca Mau Province, southern Vietnam, said on Tuesday that it had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade seeking the addition of the Ca Mau oil refining and petrochemical complex, with an annual capacity of seven million metric tons, to the national master plan for energy for the 2021-30 period, with a vision to 2050.

-- Thien Duc Construction Investment JSC and Japan’s Miyamoto Kogyosho Co. Ltd. officially signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday to develop modern cremation center systems meeting Japanese standards in Vietnam.

-- The World Bank has approved three new projects to help Vietnam strengthen trade corridors connecting agricultural and processed and manufactured products with markets and bolster the coastal fisheries sector, funded by a total of US$666.74 million in loans from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a member of the World Bank Group, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Education

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training on Tuesday reported on the supply of textbooks for the 2026-27 school year, saying that as of 6:00 pm on Monday, localities were still short of more than 3.9 million textbooks, equivalent to about 1.5 percent of total demand.
