Society

-- Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds from September 19 to 25 flooded more than 4,200 hectares of rice fields, along with large areas of crops and dozens of homes in Ca Mau, the southernmost province of Vietnam.

-- Fourteen wards in downtown Ho Chi Minh City will experience a water outage from 10:00 pm on September 26 to 6:00 am on September 27 as water supply equipment is removed along Vo Thi Sau Street near Cong Truong Dan Chu Roundabout for the Metro Line No. 2 project.

-- A roughly 50-meter-long crack has appeared on Mimosa Pass leading to Da Lat, a popular tourist destination in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, with the crack extending toward the downhill slope. Part of the road edge has subsided by about 10cm.

-- The Vietnam Expressway Corporation and contractors on Friday began load testing Phuoc Khanh Bridge on the Ben Luc–Long Thanh Expressway, one of the final steps before the bridge is put into operation and completing the connection along the entire expressway. The load testing is expected to be completed on September 29.

-- Global aviation data and analytics provider OAG revealed its list of the world’s top 50 most connected airports in 2026, with Vietnam’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport ranking 48th and Noi Bai International Airport 49th.

Economy

-- Many supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City said that despite prolonged heavy rains affecting vegetable-growing areas, supplies of vegetables and other produce remain largely abundant, with a wide range of promotions available.

Travel

-- Da Nang City in central Vietnam welcomed more than 400,000 visitors from Russia and CIS countries, including Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in January-August 2026, up 94.2 percent year on year. Russian visitors alone numbered nearly 300,000, soaring 151.4 percent, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Education

-- Around 4,000 students from preschool to middle school in Khanh Binh Commune, Ca Mau Province, had to stay home on Friday for safety reasons due to prolonged heavy rain and deep flooding on many roads.

-- Vietnamese athletes Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong won a bronze medal in the women’s K2 500m on September 25 morning, securing Vietnam canoeing’s first-ever medal at the Asian Games (ASIAD), the Vietnam News Agency reported.
