The statement was made during her meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son at the ministry’s headquarters in Hanoi on Thursday.

Ambassador Kimtha shared the outcomes of recent Cambodia–Thailand negotiations held in Malaysia, which led to the ceasefire on July 28.

She reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing the terms of the deal and emphasized her country’s dedication to pursuing long-term peace and stability with Thailand and other regional partners.

She extended special thanks to Vietnam for its role in promoting the ceasefire, noting the importance of Deputy PM Son’s comments at the July 28 reception in Hanoi celebrating the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s access to ASEAN.

At the event, Son voiced strong support for de-escalation efforts along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

Kimtha also welcomed Vietnam’s pledge to assist both Cambodia and Thailand in implementing the ceasefire and fostering continued dialogue and cooperation under the principles of ASEAN solidarity.

She stressed that such collaboration is essential to ensuring regional peace and mutual benefit.

In response, Deputy PM Son described the ceasefire as a critical first step toward restoring peace and resuming bilateral ties.

He expressed sympathy for the losses suffered by both sides during the conflict, especially among civilians, and stated that both Cambodia and Thailand are long-standing friends of Vietnam.

He urged both parties to exercise restraint and work toward resolving their differences through peaceful dialogue, based on international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Regarding bilateral relations, Son praised the continued progress in Vietnam–Cambodia cooperation and reaffirmed Vietnam’s readiness to welcome Cambodian leaders to the upcoming 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.

He also called for greater efforts to resolve outstanding land border issues, strengthen economic cooperation, and promote cross-border connectivity, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Kimtha agreed with these priorities and highlighted the importance of increasing information sharing and joint initiatives to combat cross-border crimes, particularly online scams.
