Car in Vietnam racks up nearly 100 traffic violations, owner faces $18,200 in fines

Phu Tho traffic police said on Thursday that they had worked with the owner, identified as Tran Minh B., 47, from Xuan Lung Commune in the province, and issued an administrative violation record covering the offenses.

The car, bearing license plate 29A-64xxx, was flagged by an AI-powered camera surveillance system between February and July for violations on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in Phu Tho, with all of the violations listed as ‘not yet fined’ on VNeTraffic, an app operated by the Traffic Police Department.

During their meeting with B., traffic police found three more violations.

B. did not have a valid compulsory civil liability insurance certificate for the vehicle and had failed to complete the required procedures to obtain a new license plate and vehicle registration certificate after becoming its owner.

He had also put the car on the road without a certificate confirming that it had passed the required technical safety and environmental protection inspection.

Traffic police issued an administrative violation record covering all of B.'s offenses on Wednesday, with the total fines amounting to VND474.6 million (about $18,200).

Its first recorded violation this year came on February 22, when the driver was found to have exceeded the speed limit by more than 20 kph but no more than 35 kph on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in Van Phu Ward.

The car's latest violation came on July 30, when it was caught traveling 10-20 kph over the speed limit on the same street.
