According to the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, the crackdown was part of a nationwide campaign to ensure road safety during Tet.
At 10:00 am, officers simultaneously launched inspections across the country, focusing on alcohol testing.
Statistics showed 1,570 drivers were penalized for alcohol violations in a single day.
Officials said that despite repeated warnings about the dangers of drunk driving, many drivers remained careless during the holiday.
The same day, 46 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, leaving 24 people dead and 41 injured.
Compared to Tet 2025, accidents fell by 21 cases, fatalities dropped by eight, and injuries decreased by 10.
All accidents happened on roads. No incidents were reported on railways or waterways.
In total, 6,129 traffic violations were recorded across the country.
Besides alcohol-related offenses, common violations included speeding with 1,417 cases, overloading cargo with two cases, carrying excess passengers with 16 cases, and 16 cases using phones or electronic devices while driving.
A Traffic Police Department official said the results demonstrate the effectiveness of strict enforcement from the start of the holiday period, helping raise awareness and improve compliance among drivers.
