A truck driver stops on National Highway 1 to rescue a toddler crossing a busy road in Phu Loc Commune, Hue City, central Vietnam, April 4, 2026.

Traffic police in Phu Loc Commune said they had verified the incident and commended the driver after video of the rescue circulated on social media.

The incident occurred at around 3:35 pm on Saturday at Km860 on National Highway 1, a busy route connecting northern and southern Vietnam, in Phu Loc Commune.

Video footage showed the child stepping from the roadside into traffic as vehicles approached.

The driver, identified as Ly Van To, 31, from neighboring Da Nang City, was traveling northbound when he spotted the child and sounded his horn to warn vehicles behind him to slow down.

When the child moved through a gap in the median into the opposite lane, To stopped his truck, ran onto the road, and carried the child to safety.
