Four tourists swept into sea off central Vietnam while taking photos; 2 rescued

A group of six people was walking to Mui Nghe on Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, central Vietnam, to take photos when waves suddenly swept four of them into the sea.

At around 7:30 am on August 8, the Son Tra Border Guard Station received a report that four of six people who had gone to Mui Nghe on Son Tra Peninsula to take photos had been swept into the sea.

According to initial information, the group had walked to Mui Nghe at around 6 am. While they were taking photos, large waves suddenly swept four of them into the sea. 

They are identified as Truong Thi Phuong, 24; Mai Thi Phuong, 24; Tran Thi Anh Duong, 24; and Nguyen Thai, 30.

The other two members of the group were Truong Van Dong, 20, and Vu Hong Cam, 19.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper, the Son Tra Border Guard Station said it immediately mobilized fishing boats operating near the site to join the search-and-rescue effort.

Other relevant authorities were also alerted to coordinate the rescue.

At around 8 am, fishing boat DNa 37141-TS, operated by Nguyen Phu Hong, a Son Tra resident, reached the area and rescued Nguyen Thai.

Thai was conscious and in stable condition. He was later transferred to SAR 274, operated by the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region II, for medical care.

At 3:30 pm the same day, a naval vessel rescued Truong Thi Phuong, 24, making her the second person saved from the group. She was found alive at sea, approximately two nautical miles off Mui Nghe.

The Son Tra Border Guard Station is continuing to mobilize fishing boats and vessels from other agencies to search for the two people still missing.
