Peter Koerte, chief technology officer and chief strategy officer at Siemens, mentioned the vision during talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Tianjin, China on Wednesday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum.
Koerte noted that Siemens has been present in Vietnam since 1993 with offices in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and a factory in Binh Duong Province.
He emphasized the company’s eagerness to join Vietnam’s US$67 billion North–South express railway project, which was approved by the National Assembly in November 2024.
PM Chinh welcomed Siemens’ intention to expand its investment in Vietnam, particularly in infrastructure, noting that such infrastructure is a key breakthrough for the country.
Vietnam is implementing various investment models — including public–private partnership — for large-scale infrastructure projects across transportation, energy, and digital sectors.
Besides, Vietnam is also investing in railway lines connecting with its northern neighbor China to facilitate linkage with Central Asia and Europe.
The PM suggested that Siemens coordinate with relevant ministries, local authorities, and Vietnam Railways Corporation to explore opportunities in these projects.
In addition to railways, Vietnam also plans to develop road, aviation, and maritime systems, Chinh added.
