On Sunday afternoon, families, young people, and tourists packed the Old Quarter street to shop, take photos, and soak up the Mid-Autumn atmosphere.

Along the narrow street, storefronts were filled with lanterns, papier-mâché masks, lion dance heads, star-shaped lanterns, and other traditional toys.

Among the visitors was Vu Thu Huong, 36, from Minh Khai Ward, who brought her child to Hang Ma Street for a weekend outing.

For Huong, the visit was about more than just having fun.

“It is a little crowded today, but I really enjoy it because this is a traditional festival,” Huong said. “People can see traditional toys, while children have a chance to learn more about the country’s traditions.”

She added that visiting places such as Hang Ma Street allows children to see and experience traditional Mid-Autumn toys firsthand.

Street closed for traditional Mid-Autumn market

The 2026 Old Quarter Traditional Mid-Autumn Market is running on Hang Ma Street through September 25, with stalls lining both sides of the section between the Hang Ma-Hang Duong and Hang Ma-Hang Cot intersections.

The market offers children’s toys, festive decorations, traditional handicrafts, mooncakes, and other products associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

It is part of a wider series of celebrations across Hanoi’s Old Quarter, with related activities taking place at 22 Hang Buom Street, the Heritage House at 87 Ma May Street, and the Ho Guom Cultural Information Center at 2 Le Thai To Street.

To make room for the market, the section of Hang Ma Street hosting the event is closed to vehicles around the clock, with traffic diverted to other routes.

This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 25.

Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Vietnam’s most popular traditional celebrations, especially for children. Families typically gather to enjoy mooncakes, carry lanterns, watch lion dances, and take part in activities centered on the full moon.
